To kick off the 2020 NFL Season, the goal was to highlight the career of Cam Newton. With Cam joining the New England Patriots in the offseason, the narrative was that he had declined since the Super Bowl and had struggled with injuries. I had thought a clever way to show the ups and downs of his career would be to mirror retro video games’ left to right animation style. The playfulness of it made it easy to show off not only his accolades but some of his shortcomings without being too negative. I created the illustrations using Photoshop and animated using After Effects. Cam Newton ended up commenting on the piece praising it as well.
